Yeast Infection Home Remedy

Signs and Symptoms of Yeast Infection

A yeast infection is a common bacterial infection caused by candida albicans, which is a strain of yeast that naturally live on the human body in small numbers. Yeast infections commonly inflict women in the vaginal area, with the following symptoms:
  • A thick, white, and odorless discharge from the vagina.
  • Itching and burning inside as well as outside the vagina.
  • A burning sensation during urination.
  • Slight pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse.
Men can also suffer from yeast infections, and infections can also occur on different parts of the body such as beneath the breasts, under nails, and behind other skin folds such as the lower abdominal area.

Causes of Yeast Infection

Although the bacteria that lead to yeast infections naturally exist on our bodies, their numbers are kept under control by the acidity level inside of the vagina. However, a drop in this acidity level may allow the yeast to flourish, leading to an infection. There are a number of possible reasons why this imbalance may occur:
  • Pregnancy or menstrual cycles may cause a yeast infection, due to the hormonal changes that a woman undergoes in these situations.
  • Antibiotics, steroids, and certain birth control pills can cause yeast infections.
  • Excessive moisture inside of the vaginal region can lead to infections.
  • Individuals diagnosed with diabetes have been known to be more susceptible to yeast infections.
  • Consuming large amounts of sweets and other high-sugar foods can lead to recurring infections.

Home Remedies and Natural Cures for Yeast Infection Treatment

Apple Cider Vinegar for Yeast Infection

One of the best home remedies to treat a yeast infection is Apple Cider Vinegar. Here are some simple steps on how to use this amazing natural treatment:
Step 1:
Add 1 and a half cups of Apple Cider Vinegar into a bathtub filled with luke warm water, and then soak in it for about 20 minutes. This should be done once a day for the first 3 days of the infection.
Step 2:
After 3 days of soaking, the infection should be significantly less. You can now create a mixture consisting of 1 and a 1/2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar. Use this mixture as a vaginal douche twice per day for up to 5 days. Note that it is normal if you feel a slight sting when you first apply it internally.
Step 3:
After a few days of douching, start to drink a glass of water mixed with 1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar once per day. This not only helps prevent yeast infections, but it also has numerous other health benefits such as improving skin health and boosting your metabolism.

NOTE: If you are pregnant, it is best to consult your doctor before using this treatment.

Yeast Infection Home Remedy Using Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil can be used as a highly effective douche treatment against yeast infections. It is recommended that you purchase a small dropper bottle that can be used to store the solution.
  • Combine 1 teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil with 1 teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
  • Mix the solution, which should appear milky white.
  • Store the solution in the dropper bottle.
  • Add 10 drops of the solution to a pint of water.
  • Use this douche once a day for a week in order to rinse the vagina.
NOTE: Using Tea Tree Oil during pregnancy is not recommended. During pregnancy, it is best to consult with your doctor before using any treatment.

Natural Remedy for Yeast Infection With Yogurt

The active bacterial cultures in yogurt help to fight yeast, which is one of the main reasons why many people have found it to be effective at treating a yeast infection. In the case of vaginal infections, a simple remedy is to dip a tampon in plain, unsweetened yogurt, and insert the tampon into the vagina. Repeat this twice a day until symptoms disappear. For other types of yeast infections, applying yogurt directly onto the surface for 10 to 15 minutes each day works well. Eating yogurt on a daily basis is also recommended for treating and preventing future yeast infections.

If your infection persists for longer than a week, it is best to consult your doctor.

Garlic as a Natural Cure for Yeast Infection

Many people have found that garlic is wonderful at fighting yeast infections. Simply insert one garlic clove directly into the vagina, and repeat this every few hours for 2 days. You can also take garlic internally, either as tablets or by crushing a fresh garlic clove into a few small pieces and quickly swallowing the pieces with a glass of water.

Fermented foods are very effective too in treating and managing the infection. Fermented food and alcohol depletes nutrients which allows the proliferation of the fungus. For people who need help there's this website with great information on getting read of yeast infection and it really helped me. For the love of God, WHY do you have remedies that involve douching listed here?! Douching is never, ever the solution. It might actually be the problem! If you look anywhere online or ask any doctor, they will tell you that the vagina is self-cleaning. By douching, you strip the healthy bacteria as well as the bad... And the bad bacteria grows back much faster than the good! Douching just perpetuates the problem. The only cleaning the vagina needs is some soap and water on the outside of your labia majora, maybe some water between the folds. Rinsing out the inside of your vagina will only hurt it. Please, please do not take any of those douching suggestions. The only things you should try for any vaginal infection are topical, ingested, or that ACV soak.

And PS. I have done probiotics on and on and on...even put them inside my vagina for weeks at a time. (and Vit. c too). I don't eat yeast and have rarely eaten it in 8 years (maybe 5 times a year) No gluten, rarely eat sugar. Please, if you cannot get rid of yeast or bladder infections, consider it might be UREAPLASMA. If you do, you can well bet your partner has it too, which is helpful because you can both work on it together. Plus, you may need to abstain for awhile (or wear protection) so that if one of you starts to get better, you don't reinfect over and over again. My partner and I are being very careful...but it is tricky as it can be passed through the mucous...we didn't kiss for 2 months but we decided we will work this out and keep the kissing)) The newest line of probiotics I am trying now is Theralac--not to try and get rid of the yeast in my body but to set up and environment in my body which the candida cannot thrive..."Theralac" (not THREELAC) Gonna see how it works...

One word for all those women (and men) who are challenged with yeast infections and BV for months and even years: UREAPLASMA. One doctor in LA is the only doctor in the US who diagnosises it and treats it. However, do not rely only on antibiotics. I did two treatments--5 weeks total, and I still have it. It is considered an "STI"--sexually transmitted infection...and since no clinics or doctors anywhere diagnose or treat, it is quite rampant. So, you may pass all your STD tests and still contact it from someone...and the spreading from one person to another just goes on and on...symptoms can be very few to non-existent or more severe, like myself--bloating pelvic area, trickling, stabbing pains down the urethrea, burning while peeing, kidney pain, constant peeing (sometimes 8-10 times a night), a yeast infection I've had for a year and a half, and BV. As long as the urea is in the body (and I've been told it is VERY resistant to antibiotics and treatment), the BV and yeast will continue. I am now mega-dosing Vit.C, taking Grapefruit seed extract and treating my body for the parasite CANDIDA. This, intuitively, to me, is why the infection hangs around. As long as the body hosts the candida, it cannot heal infections. I hope this helps. I posted about the urea so you might not overdo it with the vaginal yeast meds and the douches (which can damage). I did many weeks of peroxide, apple cider vinegar, boric acid, yogurt, garlic...they all helped, but like the urea-doctor said, as long as the infection is there, the yeast and BV will remain...so far she has been right about that. And as for candida, I have found that being gentle--meaning--making the body anenviromnent ehy cannot thrive in, feels more right and less traumatic than trying to kill them off. That's serious die off and really can make you sick! Oh--also, OXYGEN! Candida cannot thrive in a body which is oxygenated. CELLFOOD has really helped too! "Health Force Super Foods" makes another kind of oxygen supp. I would also recommend. I am still working through this infection, it is related to emotional things as well, so it takes time to meet these things and heal...many blessings to you all!

I have suffered between Yeast Infections and BV for so long. Nothing prescribed seems to work for me. I have was tested for STD's and am negative for all but my last test showed that I have Streptococcal Group B in my urine, (along with the yeast infection). My doc DID NOT prescribe any antibiotic, which is the suggested treatment for this. He said I should just use Monistat 7 for 14 days instead of seven. Please help. I need to get rid of the yeast infection as well as some advice regarding the Strep group B. I am not pregnant nor is there any chance of me becoming pregnant.

Hi I want to try the garlic method but I'm scare it my break my virginity.is it ok to blend it and pet it at the tip of my vagina?

I was skeptical but eventually became desperate enough to give it a try, after exhausting all other options I could think of and researched. The extract from this amazing and readily available herb works amazingly against all infections and viruses, and heals the skin very quickly. I struggled against a plantar wart for half a year, trying various remedies. It grew to the size of a thumb and I could barely walk. This oil ate it up in ten days flat. A friend tried it and said it cured his athletes foot within three days. It can cure cancer and seemingly any ailment. It can also be consumed and works internally, but if so start slow and build up tolerance, as you will probably get high. Word needs to get out about this. http://001yourtranslationservice.com/me/Health/natural-cancer-cure-remedy-treatment.html

@Anonymous, you are supposed to take the garlic clove out after about every 3-4 hours. And reinsert after a few hours (about 2 hrs). Some people find that leaving it in overnight works faster. But I think it's too long to leave in. Also Drinking 1tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar mixed in a glass of water helps too. Good luck!

when you insert a clove of garlic into the vagina, do you leave it in or remove it after a certain amount of time?

@ Anonymous, I can understand what you are going through. I suffered from Yeast Infection for a log time. However, combination of a few remedies has worked well for me. I found that using Apple Cider Vinegar as a vaginal wash and a soak along with Canesten suppositories was pretty useful. I put 2-3cups of Apple Cider Vinegar in bath tub with enough water that I could fully soak my bottom in and soaked for about 20 minutes for a week. I also mixed 2-3tbsp of ACV in a glass of water, poured it in a Peri bottle (squirt bottle and used it a wash or rinse every time after using the washroom. I also mixed one teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and a pinch of salt in a cold glass of water and drank it twice daily for about a month. I was eating lots of yogurt with probiotics everyday. Cutting down on sugar and caffeine was also part of the daily regimen. I'm glad that I don't get Yeast Infection any more like I did in the past. It's hardly once a year now. I still drink 1 tsp of ACV in a glass of water every now and then. I hope it helps! Good luck!

I am 34. I have had a vaginal yeast infection since 20 yrs old. I cannot get rid of this vaginal yeast infection. I have tried the boric acid capsules, the over the counter insert creams, Diflucan for seven months, Sporanox for six months and Ketoconazole for four months. I do not have Diabetes and I do not have hiv. I have just learned to live with it. I am tired all the time and I am so scared that this infection is taking a toll on my body. I have read most of the comments on here. What treatment plan would work out best for me? Please help me.

Hydrogen Peroxide douche (about a cup with water in large bag), will knock out vaginal yeast quickly!!!! Can use a little peroxide on a q-tip to treat thrush!!! Don't drink it!, just a q-tip with it on cotton, but not dripping so u have to squeeze it out a little. Also removes blood from clothes.

Try the Yeast Free Diet. I've been suffering on and off for 10 years (I'm 21 now) with yeast infections and over the counter, prescription, and at home remedies don't work on their own. Going on a yeast free diet is the only way I'm ever able to get rid of them completely when they occur. It's really not that hard unless you have an overall unhealthy diet to begin with (which is one reason why people get them). Systemic yeast and yeast allergies is a growing concern.

for YI use baking soda [sodium bicarbonate] ... approx 1 teaspoon in approx 8oz glass of distilled water (mix as desired) ... for thrush rinse with bs + distilled water ... for vagina dip with cotton ball in mixture and insert ... for internal YI and cancer google Dr. Simoncini and find his home protocol ... good luck and god bless...

Thank you all for your information. I have been suffering from YI for many years on and off. It never seems to completely go away. I first got it after I had my left tube removed, my doc said it was due to prolong use of antibiotics. I forget what she prescribed then but it went away. That was like 9 yrs ago. Then I got pregnant, and had diabetes during pregnancy. I also started to get yeast infection (came and went) during the pregnancy (vaginal itchiness was horrible!) Washing after toilet use gave some relief. More antibiotics were prescribed and used. After my son was born the yeast infection left. Then now six years later, I am getting it again. This time it is worse. I notice the itchiness gets bad right before my period. I also have it when I eat food that has yeast in it or sugar. So I have cut down on breads, and basically stay off sweets. Chocolates make my YI worse! Right now I am only washing (just water after every toilet use) and using a OTC cream (candid gel). So you can imagine the lack of sleep as they are not working! Its 2am and I haven't slept. It itches bad at night for some reason. Having said all that, I am now going to try the remedies offered by all of you. Thank you! Will post again on outcome.

Vaginal yeast infection and vulvitis cause symptoms that are nonspecific, which means that aside from the yeast infection, other conditions can cause the identical symptoms. The most common symptom of a vaginal yeast infection is itching in the vaginal and/or vulvar area. Other symptoms of vaginal yeast infection and vulvitis include: burning, soreness, pain during intercourse and/or urination, and vaginal discharge. (Vaginal discharge is not always present, but when it occurs, the discharge is odorless and typically has a whitish, thick appearance and texture, like cottage cheese.)http://herbal-health-care.net/

I have had yi I was either 11 or 12 years old, before I got my first period. I've seen the doctors about it and they give me the same 7 day treatment it goes but it's back in a few weeks. If I hadn't done my own research I wouldn't have found everything mentioned here in this site. I don't understand why the doctors i've seen didn't take the time to give me information on how to prevent future yi and how we get it in the first place. YI on & off for 19 years is so irritating and doesn't help with self esteem I will try the acv treatment and the garlic clove treatment. I will not forget to tie dental floss on it so I won't be scared about not finding it like Beatriz 03/20/12. It doesn't dissolve btw the uterus should naturally push it out if you can't find it. The uterus tries it's best to keep any foreign objects out of it. If you want to remove all doubt about it being there or not see your gynecologist (they can use the clamp and see ALL inside). All the questions people ask here are already answered by previous posts (people need to take their time and read all of them).

I saw someone mention using hydrocortisone for the itching, and I wanted to mention that this is probably not a good idea. It might help the itching, yes, BUT ... steroids (and hydrocortisone is a steroid, albeit a low dose one) are actually going to encourage fungal growth. NOT what we want to accomplish in the long run! Many years ago, an herbalist friend of mine swore by an infusion of golden seal and myrrh. I don't know the proportions she used, but she claimed it was a "one and done" cure. You'd bring water to a boil, turn of the heat, steep the golden seal and myrrh in the hot water. Once cool, strain and douche. I have never tried it, but if I had the ingredients handy I sure would be!

Using Tea tree oil is very effective. I have had YI like one or twice every year, came across the tea tree oil home remedy, mixed 10 drops of tea tree oil with 1 tea spoon of extra virgin olive oil, i swear by it, it works! Used this solution twice daily for 7 consecutive days and my YI is gone. I won't lie, it stings for like 10 mins when you apply internally and externally, but after that, you have this nice feeling down there.

Douche with 4 tbsp 10% peroxide and cool water to fill douche 2xday. Try laying down on the tub to let it sit there for a minute or so if you are able. A H2O2 detox with Food grade H2O2 is also very helpful. Those little yeasty beasts can't survive with all that extra oxygen. They require an anarobic environment to be fruitful and multiply. I was treated for acne when I was a teen with Tetracyline and have suffered from yeast forever. OTC medications no longer worked for me. GSE, and boric acid are also very helpful. Lower your alcohol intake as well. I could write about this al day but it would be receptive to the info in prviouse posts. DO NOT USE ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS EVER. THEY ARE POISON!!!!!

This is a great venue for sharing and I appreciate all the advice. I've noticed in a few of the comments that some young women with sexual partners keep having reoccurring breakouts without understanding why. It's important to know that men carry the yeast without them knowing it,(it doesn't itch and you can't see it), and if you don't treat them you'll be infected again.

Best thing to do is get your doctor to prescribe you 30 day treament which is 100mg a day for 30 days. If you have any std's and is on medication for it then a yeast infection is common. If you are on anti biotics then this can also cause severe yest infection. The fact that it has no smell only point to one thing (HIV,and or Herpees). IF you havent got tested you should and if you are positive for either one then yeast infections is going to make up alot of your life. Best thing to do is to go pantless while you are at home to keep your (vagina) from being exposed to prolonged heat. Also make sure you take more showers then baths. Do not use douch or put vinegar or directly insert water up your vagina. Why not? Well your vagina hold moisture and yeast thrives in moistures. Use polyurathan condoms instead of latex because it is less irratable to the skin. Men can catch yeast infections so use condoms so that they want give you one and you want give them one. How to tell if your male partner has a yeast infection? Well he would have red dots in his pubic hairs and would reach his climax very quickly then normal. The tip of his head will be red and swollen. Sometimes its only a red and swollen head instead of the red dots which are slightly raised. This could also be considered a staff infection. Hopefully this helped you out and others. Everything i've said has been told to me by a doctor and or i have expericed. Home remedies is not a solution only a prevenative. Normal dosage to take per day of flucanzol is 100mg to 400mg (depends on how severe). Good luck and watch your partners, if you treat your yeast infection and he dont then you mightest well not.

YEAST INFECTIONS!!!!! YEAST INFECTIONS!!!!...I AM NOT SHOUTING....I JUST WANT TO GET YOUR ATTENTION. I'VE SEEN THIS MENTIONED ON THIS FORUM BUT IT SEEMs AS IF THIS suggestion was OVERLOOKED. I see so many of you ladies suffering as I did, so I'd just like you to look at some PROBIOTICS that are especially formulated for a healthy vaginal tract. You really need to get the probiotics that go right to the "source". Probiotic GR1 and RC14: "FEM DOPHILUS". Read the peoples "reviews" and see how it tremendously helped them and me. www.amazon.com/jarrow-formulas/fem-dophilus Some of you may think it's expensive, but it is well worth it. @ Furio konstantinos regarding my last post - For tea tree oil ratio, it's one drop of oil mixed in 3 tbsp of water and for apple cider vinegar, it's one part ACV and 3 parts water. Also in my first line, I mean "it is the *same* in men in women".

Posted by Alina on Oct 01 2011 02:36:06
@ Furio Konstantinos, yes yeast infection is the in men or women. I think you should try diluted apple cider vinegar (1 ACV:3 water)first for about a week if it doesn't help then try diluted tea tree oil (1:3)remedy.Good luck

Hi, I was wondering if anybody had any idea what's going on in my situation. Sorry if this is TMI. I had my first yeast infection in October of 2010. It started the day after my boyfriend and I had sex a few times in one day and I was very sore. (sorry for TMI, just trying to find answers.) it was also 4 or 5 days before my period. The dr prescribed one dose of fluconazole. I also tried the yogurt tampon remedy in the days before my period and nothing helped. It finally went away after my period was over and a 2nd dose of fluconazole. I had another in November. Same circumstances and time frames. After sex and before my period. I had another in April. We has sex a few days before my period, but I wasn't wet enough (which was very stupid and I've learned my lesson) and I ended up with one the next day. The dr said it was probably because of the damage and too much friction. Again, went on through my period, tried yogurt, apple cider vinegar baths and it finally cleared up after the period and a 2nd round of medicine. Here I am, 4 months later, with another. We had sex a week before my period a few times, though I thought I was lubricated enough. I saw a different dr and she didn't know anything. Took my fluconazole, cut out a lot of sugar, eating tons of organic unsweetened yogurt, inserting it also, tried eating raw garlic and it made me sick. I'm on the third day and nothing has improved. Do you think it's possible a correlation of tOo much friction during sex and my hormone levels before my period? It doesn't happen everytime we have sex before my period, but it never happens unless we have had sex. Does anybody have ANY ideas? Sorry this is so long. I just want answers ): also, do you think I'm resistant to fluconazole now, even though there has been large gaps between m infections? Thank you guys so much. I feel your pain and wish you all to feel better soon.

I never had a yeast infection until last September.... we took in a teenage girl, and she started borrowing my shoes... all the sudden, i noticed my feel sweated a lot more, and they smelled different. My whole body sweated alot more, my underarm sweat scent had changed too. Soon, I started getting really bad infection in my vagina.... lots of discharge, horrible smells and pain. This went on for months. I changed my whole diet, and stopped eating anything with sugar..even fruit or carrots. I have taken lots of fresh lemons, ACV, garlic cloves inserted, plain yogurt, really strong priobiotics, and now If i start to hurt, I can suppress it right away. Has anyone else noticed a different scent in your sweat? Also, does it seem possible that she transferred it to me by wearing my shoes without socks? She denies every having athletes feet or a yeast infection? Just so weird that I went from never having one to a chronic one. natural remedies totally work, and make you healthier. God knows best!

Can you use the garlic method while your are pregnant??

After suffering with yeast infections for 5 years, I finally decided to try the garlic capsules and they have been my absolute salvation. Even though I was very skeptical I was also very desperate at the same time. I inserted 2 capsules 3 days in a row and everyday I noticed a little less itching until one day it finally went away. I cannot believe that garlic was the answer after so many doctor visits and years of being uncomfortable. If anyone is interested, I bought Solaray Organically Grown Garlic capsules (600mg). I don't think the brand matters but this is what worked for me. I am so happy to be free of this terrible itch. Good luck to the rest of you out there and thanks so much for this great site!!!

Hi Baby doll, I must tell you thanks very much, it was not so easy to get the gelatin capsules but I had some vitamins in capsule form and I emptied the contents and filled it with the boric acid powder and inserted it as high as I could. I did this for two days in the night and in the morning as you'd suggested. The third day I bought some probiotics and cut a piece of the caplet as small as possible and fill the capsule along with the boric acid powder and inserted it for two more days. Most of the itching and the soreness went the first two days and using the probiotics made me feel fresh all day down there. I also used an aloe vera soothing gel to ease the itching and soreness throughout the process. Right now its the best I've ever felt in a while and beats all the medication I was getting from the doctor. Thank you so much!!!

Posted by Baby Doll on Jun 19 2011 02:27:44
Hi Fran, The Boric Acid comes in powder form, which is why it needs to be filled into Gelatin Capsule so that it can be inserted and placed into vagina wall. Gelatin capsule will melt into your body (it's usually used for filling medicines or vitamin for oral consumption) so you do not need to take it out. I open the capsules and fill the boric acid up by about half way (half way of the full capsule) and insert into vagina twice a day for 7 days straight.

I recently got a yeast infection, I'm assuming it's because I have been on antibiotics for a long period of time. And while it seems to be helpful to put some of the remedies up into the vagina I have a hard time just putting a tampon in. I tried taking the raw garlic, and there has been significant improvement. Every few hours I chopped some garlic and swallowed it down with water. I'm hoping this will rid me of it! I used vagisil anti itch wipes for the itch the first two days and that didn't help as much as I thought. The garlic has helped the most.

Posted by Fran on Jun 12 2011 00:38:13
How do you use the boric acid, how do you get it out after use, how long should it stay in, can the boric acid be had already in capsule forms or do I specifically have to buy the capsule separately from the boric acid itself or can the boric acid be used in another way other than pouring it in a capsule? I have tried the garlic but it has only intensified the itching and it simply will not go away, I don't know what I might be doing wrong.

Ladies, I had suffered from yeast infection before and tried all the home remedy methods ever mentioned from all websites - yogurt, garlic, prescription cream, AVC, honey, vinegar bath, etc etc you name it. Those would only temporally relief the symptom (if ever worked at all) and then the yeast infection would come back in a week or two. I became worried and desperate. I was so afraid that yeast infection would haunt me for the rest of my life .. until I found out this method that actually works! I have been yeast infection free for 6 months now and positively feel that it's gone for good. I dedicate this post and special thanks to "Lady Linds" who saved my life. What cured my yeast infection was Boric Acid (I ordered from CVS, picked up the next day, it's non-prescription) and 00 size of gelatin capsules (bought from Whole Food). I filled up half of the capsule with boric acid and inserted into the vagina as deep as I could; once in the morning and again before going to bed. I did this for 7 days and I have been yeast infection free since then. Also, I mixed 7-8 drop of pure tea tree oil with the same amount of alcohol (50% concentration) in a clean water spray bottle (5-6oz container) and keep in my bathroom. I spray that after I go to the bathroom and dap off with toilet paper to keep the private part dry. This helps soothing and itchness. I still do this even though I do not have yeast infection anymore. Last but not least, every time after sex, I wash my private part with soup that contain tea tree oil. I believe the tea tree oil helps to protect the yeast infection to come back to me. I hope it would work for you ladies as well.

Hi Riva, I had yeast infection during pregnancy too. I used Apple Cider Vinegar and yogurt. During pregnancy we are not supposed to douche or insert anything inside so I used Apple cider vinegar mixed water for washing after using the washroom. Also I soaked just the bottom (not the whole body)in Apple Cider mixed water in bath tub for 20 minutes every day. Eating plain yogurt and applying it onto a pad and leaving it on for about 15 minutes helped with the discomfort too. But if the infection doesn't go away after using these remedies for a week, I'd suggest using Canesten. It's safe to use during pregnancy. I used it because mine kept coming back. I used Canesten 3 days kit and it helped. I hope you get better soon! Good luck!

Hi everyone, I have been having a yeast infection for almost a year now because of antibiotics. I am so grateful I found this site because I am definitely going to try either the tea tree or apple cider since I have them both. To those of you who have a problem with the garlic. Stop it! Who cares about the smell if you are getting cured? I made myself love raw garlic since in our family we suffer from high blood pressure. So what's a little garlic smell for a while as opposed to in some cases several years of yeast infections? I did have a yeast infection several years ago and I pureed garlic and used it in water and douched with it but it irritated me and did not help. So I am a bit scared to use it now. BUT I eat it at least four days a week RAW. I guess my infection keeps bothering me as I will admit I have a sweet tooth.

I have been looking for a home remedy for an itchy dark red skin rash around the inner thigh area,I am sure this is Jock Itch, and is a yeast problem, can also get it under the breasts, warm humid conditions are a cause.I read a letter from a lady who said she had fantastic results with using a Zink Oxide nappy rash cream, also another said they had good results from bathing in a bleach water solution,2tbs to 12 oz of hot water,so I am going to try the bleach wash, and when dry use the cream, and I will try taking the Cider apple vinegar daily.Hopefully my husband will do something about it too as it is contagious and it just gets passed backwards and forwards if not,so sex is out of the question until it clears up.

@ Suzy, Try soaking into Apple Cider Vinegar. It really helped me. Simply take a cup of ACV and pour into bath tub and fill it just enough that you can soak your bottom into. Soak in for at least 20 minutes everyday - you'll notice a difference in a few days.

I've dealt with yeast infection symptoms for 5 years now. I have been to the doctor over 10 times for this problem and I have yet to find relief. For those who say make sure to see a doctor before trying any treatments, well I did and now it's up to me to figure this out. I am thankful I found this site and will try all the suggestions given. So far the tea tree oil seems to have helped with the itching, although it's not gone. I will continue to post updates on my condition.

I had a horrible yeast infection for weeks. I tried to treat it with the usual antifungals, including diflucan and monistat. Both only made the symptoms ten times worse. The pain and burning only increased. I was even getting sores in my mouth and on my tongue. Then I read on here how yogurt could be used. It gave me instant relief from the pain and burning and helped keep the other symptoms reduced. What really, finally knocked it out was the clove of garlic. I used it overnight and by the next day I had no more burning or itching and could urninate without burning. I don't think i will ever use an antifunal medication again. The natural remedies worked so much better and had no side effects.

1. Hydrogen Peroxide (aka H2O2 - the stuff in the brown bottle from the drugstore that your mom probably used on your cuts - remember when it got all fizzy on them?) works really well at helping your vagina balance itself out again & works for both Bacterial Vaginosis(BV) & Yeast Infections(YI). The "bad bacteria" in your vagina are anerobic (DON'T like oxygen) & the "good bacteria" are aerobic (like oxygen). H2O2, when used as a douche (diluted or not - your choice, really) increases the oxygen in the vagina, so the good bacteria grow stronger & the bad bacteria die off. I personally just use a 3mL syringe (no needle!) filled with H2O2 a few times a day when I sense one coming on & it usually stops it before it even really starts. When I actually have a full-on infection (sometimes they don't give you advance warning), I use it more often. It can also be mixed 50/50 with water & used as a douche. You can buy a douche kit at the store, dump out the junk that comes in it & add your own liquid. You can cut the top hole open bigger if you need to without breaking the douche bottle. 2. Garlic cloves are great for YI. Insert the garlic clove up as far as it will go & often it will just stay up there through the strength of your vaginal muscles. Tie some dental floss around it & leave a tail if you don't want to have to "go fishing" for it later. A good combo is garlic clove in the day, plain yogurt inserted at night. The garlic smell will go away after a few days (2, maybe?) once you stop using it; the H2O2 internal wash can help with the garlic smell somewhat, as can an apple cider vinegar douche. 3. Plain yogurt is very soothing, though very messy. Greek yogurt isn't as "runny", but you can thicken regular yogurt by pouring it into some cheesecloth (or an old clean teeshirt), tying it into a little bag & leaving it to hang over a bowl or jar (tie it onto a wooden spoon or something so it's hanging in the bowl/jar). The whey will drip into the bowl & the yogurt in the cloth gets thicker/drier until it's more like cream cheese. This can be both easier to spread on your vagina & can make it more likely to stay in your vagina all night (and not just fall/melt out if you happen to stand up!). You still need to wear a pad/pantyliner. The yogurt will naturally come out of the vagina on it's own, just like your normal discharge does. If you're super concerned, you can do a plain water douche afterward, even better to throw a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into the water douche. 3. Boric Acid capsules rock the house! Available at compounding pharmacies (do a websearch to find one near you) or you can get the ingredients at a drugstore (sometimes) or whole food/health food store. You can get empty gelatin capsules & boric acid (it's a powder) and make your own capsules. Insert one every night for 2 weeks (14 days). You can make a paste with the powder & some water to spread on the outside, but make sure you don't have cuts on your fingers when you do this (I guess it can sting?). I've never made the paste, though. 4. Apple Cider Vinegar is supposed to be very good as a douche, and taken internally daily as a preventative. It's recommended to get the "good stuff" kind of ACV, the kind with the "mother" (it might have stringy bits floating in it). This kind is "alive" in the same way yogurt is, and is full of healthy probiotics & is worth the extra dollar over the Heinz brand! I've just started taking ACV daily, since I'm starting to have yeast problems again, and while not getting vaginal infections (until yesterday - oww!), I'm having trouble with YI under my breasts, in my buttcrack & on my feet (athlete's foot is just a YI on your feet!). One of my medications REALLY makes me sweat like crazy & I'm pretty sure that's what's causing them. Does anyone else get REALLY messed up in the head with YI? I swear, I get more headache-y & weepy/emotional & somewhat forgetful when I get a vaginal YI. I can't decide if I'm also more clumsy when I get a vaginal YI. Anyone else have symptoms like this?

Because I'm in a long term relationship and both 'sterile', we do not use condoms, but I did notice that I was getting YI's a day or two after sex; and it occurred to me that we must have past an old one I had back and forth. I took to douching with a equal mix (1 tsp of Tee Tree Oil and Alcohol) and put a few drops of the mix into a douche with distilled water instead of the mix it came in as it's cheap enough to dispose of and used it after sex and I haven't had another bout of YI as a result. We do not live together so sex isn't daily, which allows my vagina to fully cleanse and sometimes for an added precaution, I'll make a plain yogurt suppository for night time use. I'm grateful for knowing that there are cheap and natural ways to prevent YI recurrence.

I suffered for about 4 months with back to back yeast infections and got got fed up with OTC/RX treatments, so I did some research on cheaper and natural remedies and was not only pleased with what I found; it worked. A garlic clove inserted into the vagina during the day (12hrs) and then plain yogurt inserted at night. After a few days (3-5 to be sure), I made a mixture with 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil and a teaspoon of Isopropyl Alcohol and used a small dropper full in a disposable douche bottle (OTC kind rid of original mix) with distilled water and it was the final touch for ridding the infection

I'll try the yogurt, great idea! What I've found that works almost instantly is drinking a small glass of water with an Airborne tablet dissolved in it. It can be found at grocery stores in the cold&flu aisle. It has 17 herbs and nutrients and was created by a 2nd grade teacher. Not quite sure why it works or why I feel better, but the burning goes away at once :) I highly recommend it! Thanks for reading.

I've suffered yeast infections for 10 years. Spent $$$ at countless Dr.'s looking for relief from the itching, burning, and skin tears. Recently, I FINALLY found the right cure! I soak in a bath of 1 c ACV for 20 min ea/day and I drink water mixed w/ 2 TBS ACV and Grade B maple syrup to taste 3x/day before meals. I also take a probiotic and eat plain yogurt for breakfast. I've been doing this for 3 days so far.The itching is gone and the skin tears are healing. I also notice I have more energy, but I don't know if the ACV drinks have anything to do with it. I'm just glad not to be itching!

For people curious about the garlic, I get yeast infections anytime I'm on antibiotics and this is my first solution. All I do is wrap dental floss around the garlic so you can pull it back out and it works like a charm! I've never bothered using any over the counter creams or medicines because it's always gotten rid of it within a few days.

My chiropractor told me my body was too alkaline and to take 2 tablespoons of vinegar a day. He was unaware I had a yeast infection, but the side effect was that my yeast infection cleared up. Take the vinegar in grape or other strong flavored juice. Now I'm taking 2 teaspoons a day in a glass of water sweetened with brown sugar.

if you just put plain yogurt (not sweetened or flavored) on your vagina it reallllyy gets rid of the pain. i am not sure if it totally makes it go away because mine is not completely gone yet. but it really helps the itchiness. it is a bit gross but i would do anything to make it go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been having rancid YI's for at least 10 yrs now and I think the climate you live in plays a HUGE part. When I lived in the North I only got 2 in 5 years. I've been back in the South for a month and am on my second one. I had a doctor tell me once to you the Monistat 7 once a week (one insert every Sunday night) and that will help to ward them off. I do it everyday & also once you put the tampon on you can use your finger to put castor oil around the outside the vagina as well can be messy so put a pad then once you take the tampon off you will not have any discharge & be fresh all day. Castor oil is about a bottle. Please try then post let me know...It really works!!!!!

hi, im not sure if i have a yeast infection or a uti but im more positive of the YI... anyways... my vagina consists of redness, its kind of swollen, and there's a layer of discharge that's white somewhat thin but yet cottage cheese-ish...it's not thick and yellow as if it was bc of ovulation. I also had sexually intercourse about 2-3 weeks ago, but these symptoms started Sun. night and I asked my bf if he had any symptoms and he declined and that he was fine. also... when i first started urination it was strong and yellow. please explain to me what it can possibly be bc if it's just a YI then i will feel a little better.

I've had constant yeast infections in the past. I tried EVERYTHING! And the only thing that has worked and continues to keep infections at bay is Silver Biotics. I recommend it to everyone. I swallow a spoonful every night, and I never have yeast infections anymore! It's literally gold in a bottle!

After reading these comments, I tried the garlic oil remedy and it worked instantly. I finally got relief after I used my prescription cream for days, a round of Monistat and nothing worked. I couldn't believe it. I have suffered on and off for 11 years with yeast infections and was amazed how well it worked. I just picked up 1000mg Garlic Oil capsules at my local drug store and applied the oil to the infected area. It is definitely worth trying.

I think I have a YI! I have had 1 b4, but this time it is a lil difrent! I have no discharge, or any smell. I just got married and we got a hot tub!! It just burns and is a lil diconfort. Then it hurts during sex!

I want to try the garlic thing.... but I was curious, is there a time frame it stays in... how does one get it back out... or does it dissolve or something? (I don't think it dissolves....)

Jenny, it sounds like you have a nasty Urinary Tract Infection... which can often occur after sex since small amounts of skin and other contaminants can be forced up into the urethra. If there's blood in your urine, it has likley moved into your kidneys, and means you should seek immediate medical attention. I' ve had a couple of nasty UTI's in my time. The best many have afound to prevent them is to urinate after sex so it forces out any blockages that may have gotten in there. Even if it's not a UTI, it sounds like somthing you really should got to the Doctor for ASAP.

@Bcn, 2 years ago, I suffered the worst YI ever. It started after took a long bubble bath. I found out that scented soaps and shower gels, polyester panties and moisture can cause it. I was experiencing similar to your but extreme symptoms. Along with red painful and itchy bumps/sores all over the area, there was this thick greenish light yellow cottage cheese looking discharge too. Anyways, I don't want to be more graphic! I went to see the doctor and it was only Yeast Infection. I tried the Tea tree oil remedy but didn't add any alcohol to it. I felt relieved every time I used it! I simply added 4 drops of Tea Tree Oil to a big cup of water and washed the area every time I went to use the washroom or felt pain and itchiness. Also I used Monistat3 combination pack for 3 regular nights. It comes with everything you need to apply it. I ate lots and lots of yogurt and I still do. Now I avoid scented bubble baths, nylon or polyester underwears, tight clothes in summer and it hasn't come back since 2 years.. Whenever, I feel a lil bit itchiness, I use Tea Tree Oil remedy and it goes away in minutes!

Hi, this is the first time that I've had this problem. I've done a lot of research and I think I'll try out some of these remedies, but I'm worried that what I have might be something more serious than a yeast infection! Are little, painful sores common in a yeast infection? I'm really scared. I don't want to go to the doctor if its a yeast infection, but if it might be something worse, I will go....

Posted by CL on Mar 20 2010 23:16:57
I have a yeast infection. Once the itching and burning begins I use diluted clove oil with olive oil. It numbs the area so you don't itch as much. What a relief.

easy question and I am also looking around online for an answer: but, how do you douche with homemade solution? I am only used to the pre-made dispensers from the store that already have a solution. Thanks!!

Boric acid can be used as an antiseptic for minor burns or cuts and is sometimes used in dressings or salves or is applied in a very dilute solution as an eye wash in a 1.5% solution (1 tbsp per quart or 15 cm3 per L) of sterilized water. As an anti-bacterial compound, boric acid can also be used as an acne treatment. Boric acid can be used to treat yeast and fungal infections such as candidiasis (vaginal yeast infections) by inserting a vaginal suppository containing 600 mg of boric acid daily for 14 days[11] or for yeast infection of the male pubic region (jock-itch or strong genital odor) by applying the powder to the skin all over the pubic region for several days to a week. It is also used as prevention of athlete's foot, by inserting powder in the socks or stockings, and in solution can be used to treat some kinds of otitis externa (ear infection) in both humans and animals.

Foremost, I would like to thank everyone for being so informtive and candid(a) on this subject. I am at my wit's end. If I thought it would help, I'd pour kerosene on my crotch and insert a sparkler... (oh wait, it already feels like I did!) I'm going to try some suggestions. Thank you again! I wish you all happy private parts! >.<

Ladies... you do not have to mess around with yogurt on tampons, or douching garlic, (yuck) Just go to your local health food store, and in the refridgerator you will find probiotics for the vagina sold with an applicator. This is VERY EFFECTIVE and will cure your yeast infection completely. I would also recommend taking a quality oral probiotic daily, since I have been doing that I never get yeast infections anymore!!

I am going to every website that I remember looking at when I was searching for an alternative treatment for YI and posting what worked for me: boric acid. I did the research after two over the counter kits, a doctor prescribed cream, the diflucan pill, garlic cloves, yogurt, peroxide douches, and tea tree oil failed to help my ongoing/reoccurring infection. Nothing worked for more than a day or two, if at all. I began to wonder what was wrong with me - I had done everything right, cut back on sugar, switched laundry soaps, stopped using shower gel, gave up pantyhose, wore cotton underwear - nothing helped. Then my sister in law came to visit. She tracked down some gelatin capsules (health food store) and boric acid (drug store). I filled a 00 size capsule about 1/2 way up and inserted it at night before bed. I did this for 4 nights and I have been YI free since then. Please, if you're at wits end like I was, just try this. It might be your miracle cure too.

I also read that women who live in areas where coconut is a large part of their diet have no reported yeast infections. The article recommended eating coconut (non sweetened)and using coconut oil in cooking. It tastes wonderful! These are a few things that have helped me over my 20 year search for a cure.

Posted by Mary G. on Nov 20 2009 15:06:02
For Anonymous with the four-year yeast infection. Try giving up wheat and gluten for a week or two. I also had yeast infections for four years (constant) and my sister had them for eight years (constant). We both quit eating wheat/gluten (bread, etc.) and have not had another one unless we eat wheat or gluten. It's worth a try!

It's always good to use tea tree oil rinse until yeast infection is completely gone. Everybody is different in healing time therefore there is no fixed treatment period. It's only you who can tell if you are cured. For peace of mind, the best thing to do is when you think yeast infection is gone, go for a check up to make sure it is cured. I know Tea tree oil works for yeast infection! I start using it every time I sense it coming.

Yes, yeast infection can start after exercise if we don't take shower and change sweaty undergarments. Yeast infection flourish in damp and moist conditions because moisture interferes with the acidity levels of vaginal area. Therefore, make sure change undergarments after workouts!

Does exercising cause yeast infection? i never had yeast infection till three days ago after working out from the gym. I haven't change anything in my diet or my life style. so i'm not sure how or why i have yeast infection. but i did visit my doctor today and she took sample from my vagina. But she told me i don't have any infection. I haven't changed sex partners and i have been exercising for a long time. so i'm really confused with this whole thing. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP.

I feel bad for you for suffering through Yeast Infection for so many years. I think first you should try to find out what is causing it so frequently. I'd suggest cutting down on sugar intake, stop using any fragrant soaps or body washes, and adding yogurt your diet. Also take Oregano oil or any other immune booster to strengthen your immune system and wash the vaginal area with 2-3 drops of tea tree oil in a glass of water. Then apply Monistat Derm for the rest of the day. Make it a habit. It worked for me. I used all that along with monistat caps. I hope it helps! Good luck!

Posted by Anonymous on Oct 14 2009 23:14:56
i have been having conic yeast infection for about 4 years( a new infection 2-3 times a month) i have tried the over the counter cream and it worked a dozen or so times (fyi canestin is the best one i tried and there really is a difference) when that stopped working i tried diflucan which worked about 3 times then didn't anymore. I've tried dida an herbal remedy for yeast infection which kept the infection away for one month approx then reoccurred. I've tried eating yogert that defiantly had no affect, same with taking the pro-biotic pills. i have found that sticking a acidophiles ( pro-biotic ) up your private helps relieve symptoms fairly rapidly but is a bit messy ( wearing a liner helps) i suggest using high quality capsules as they are the best the cheep super store ones are not as good noticeably. i tried a candidas cleanse called candida gone and in the last 4 days i got strep throat went on antibiotics and strait into the worst infection of my life. I've also tried Chinese remedies also with limited luck. if any one has any help for me I'm in some serious need of it. oh one more thing that has been the best thing I've found so far its a suppository of glycerin and boric acid that your doctor prescribes not perfect but worked really well the first time. I'm hoping to find a permanent cure all that i have listed ( some that worked ) have only been temporary, at best one month of freedom. if anyone has something to help me be free of these infections I'd appreciate it

Posted by Joy on Oct 14 2009 03:26:21
Use the garlic clove, the yogurt, or a combination. Garlic is antifungal and antibacterial, so will kill candida albicans and bacterial vaginosis, but will not cause irritation or eat away the delicate skin in your personal areas. That can happen if you have too strong a concentration of tea tree oil. Also there was a case where they thought tea tree oil was causing boys to grow breasts. Anything that may pose a hormone risk or damage to the birth canal should not be used during pregnancy.

Try a Candida Detox!! I had recurring yeast infections for 2 years!!! I got it every month before my period started. It was awful! Tried all sorts of prescriptions, Diflucan, etc.. nothing worked. So I did a RenewLife CandiGone detox. 2 weeks, no sugar, take the herbal supplements and ALL MY YEAST INFECTIONS WERE GONE. It has been 4 years now since then. AND, I had the added benefit of getting rid of my acne with the detox. I had volcanoes on my face but after one week on the detox, my skin cleared up and I haven't had acne since. =) It was a miracle for me. Now I get comments by health professionals about how great my skin is! It glows! All that for a herbal detox. I can't recommend it more. =)

I have found thta the best treatment for yeast infection is to buy garlic oil capsule and insert the capsule in the vagina. ( Use capsules that dilute easily). Another alternative is wild oregano oil mix with a water base cream ( Aqueaous cream) for itchy skin and inflamed skin outside the vagina. You can alos take wild oregano capsule + garlic oil capsules everyday it will prevent yeast infections. I hope it helps.

Girls/Women....Please see your doctor before trying any of these home remedies. Go to your GYN and get a culture test to find out what the problem really is. Most doctor are open when it comes to home remedies. Your doctor could help you monitor your self treatment and if it does not work the doctor can give you a perscription. White discharde could be more than a yeast infection. It could tricamonia which could be cured by taking a couple of pills twicw a day for 7 days.

You should definitely see a doctor. Even if it is not a yeast infection, whatever it is, it is treatable with either antibiotics or anti-fungal medicines. I had a yeast infection, and I was prescribe diflucan. I took the one pill. It didn't really go away. I took another. It felt better a week or 2 later- but I still felt I had it. I saw another doctor, and he put me on another type of anti-bacteria that kills the remaining bacteria, as he said the diflucan only kills on strand - the candidas albicans. There is still remaining bacteria that needs to be killed. This helped me. BUT, I still recommend a healthy diet with low sugar, caffeine and yeast- i.e. a good ph.

I heard about this and tried it -- this works! Purchase a small spray bottle and regular, inexpensive hydrogen peroxide -- the kind that comes in the little brown bottle. Put just plain tap water (you may use distilled if you have it)in the bottle to fill 1/4 way. Fill the rest of the way with hydrogen peroxide. After showering and cleaning yourself and drying, and after every urination, spray yourself with this solution --- and drip-dry!! Using toilet paper or anything else can spread the infection. Change your all-cotton underwear 3- 4 times a day (white is preferable and the hydrogen peroxide won't bleach it out.) You should notice relief in about 3 hours of using this solution! IT WORKS! I also went to bed two nights in a row with plain yogurt (no sugar in it!)inside me -- I used the tubes that come with the vaginal creams. Eating the yogurt (not the same container, obviously) will also help.

I've found the absolute best way in dealing with yeast is prevention. Yeast grows off sugar, so it's essential to eliminate all sugars from your daily diet for at least the two weeks your treating yourself for the infection. Afterwards I would reduce my intake of all sugars, including friut juice. Also it's a great idea to try a yeast free bread sold at the health food stores. Ezekiel bread is pretty good. Cooking your food with onions, garlic,(strong anti-fungal qualities),ginger is also very helpful in fighting candida overgrowth. I found chaning the way I eat, drink, and getting some exercise weekly has really helped me overcoming the yeast infections. An added bonus the month I went sugar, and bread free I lost ten pounds, and my digestion felt wonderful!! I really hope this post helps someone. Be Healthy. HEAL*THY*SELF

Hi Elizabeth, Using the Tea Tree Oil douche to treat a yeast infection is not recommended if you are pregnant. During pregnancy, it is best to consult with your doctor on how to treat the infection, and double-check that the suggested vaginal cream is safe.

I have used yeast infectin creams twice to try and eliminate this onset of infection, but to no avail. I'd like to try the tea tree oil home remedy above, but I am concerned for two reasons 1. I am 2 months pregnant 2. I have had this onset reoccur since late October. After reading an articule of yeast infections, and the ultimate damage it can cause such as gastro problems, and the spread of the infection into other parts of the body, should I be more worried not haven got rid of it? Can I or should I try the tea tree oil remedy? My gyno told me I can use a vaginal cream, but being pregnant, I'd rather use a more natural means. Please advise.
