Signs and Symptoms of Cellulite

Cellulite

Cellulite is a common, benign skin condition that can affect people of all ages and sexes. However, it is far more prevalent in women, affecting up to 80โ€“90% of adult women to some degree. Cellulite is characterized by a dimpled, uneven, or โ€œorange-peelโ€ appearance of the skin, most commonly seen on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen.

This appearance occurs due to the interaction between subcutaneous fat deposits, connective tissue (fibrous septae), and skin structure in these areas. Common symptoms associated with cellulite may include skin laxity, mild tenderness, or a feeling of tightness, which can be more noticeable while standing or when pressure is applied.

Causes of Cellulite

The female hormones Estrogen and Progesterone play a major role in the development of cellulite. Estrogen is the primary driver; it encourages the body to store fat around the buttocks, thighs, and hips while also influencing the breakdown of collagen in the skin. Progesterone also contributes by promoting fluid retention and affecting vein health, which can make the skin appear less firm.

Other contributing factors include genetics, which determine your skin structure and fat distribution, as well as pregnancy and stress. Lifestyle choices such as smoking, lack of exercise, and obesity can also worsen the appearance of cellulite. Notably, while gentle massage can help circulation, rough or harsh massages can actually damage the skinโ€™s connective tissue, potentially making the dimpling more noticeable.

Home Remedies and Natural Treatments for Cellulite

Cellulite Home Remedy Using Apple Cider Vinegar

Cellulite before and after

The nutritional components of Apple Cider Vinegar have been known to help reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Oral Remedy

  • Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into an 8 ounce glass of water.
  • Optionally add a small amount of honey as a sweetener.
  • Drink this once each morning.

Topical Remedy

  • Mix 3 parts apple cider vinegar with one part of your favorite massage oil.
  • Gently massage this solution onto affected skin areas twice daily.
  • This may help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Exercise to Reduce Cellulite

While cellulite involves fat, it is primarily caused by fat cells pushing through the connective tissue under the skin. Excess weight can make it more visible, which is why staying active is so beneficial. Physical exercisesโ€”such as walking, jogging, swimming, jumping on a mini-trampoline, and yogaโ€”are effective ways to manage stress and improve the appearance of skin. Other great options include weight lifting, martial arts, and dancing, which help by toning the muscle beneath the skin. Aim for at least 20 minutes of exercise per day, five days a week. This helps improve circulation and keeps your body chemistry balanced, making the development of cellulite less likely.

Eating a Low-fat Balanced Diet

A balanced diet plays an important role in managing the appearance of cellulite. Focus on fiber-rich foods, such as oats and whole grains, which help the body process waste efficiently. Fruits and vegetablesโ€”including asparagus, avocados, bananas, and broccoliโ€”are excellent choices because they are high in potassium and antioxidants, which help reduce water retention and protect skin cells. Aim for at least five servings of these daily.

Supplements like fish oil, ginkgo biloba, and soy lecithin can also be beneficial. These help by supporting healthy circulation, protecting cells from damage, and maintaining the strength of cell membranes.

To keep your skin looking firm, it is best to limit alcohol, excessive sugar, and smoking, as these can damage collagen and restrict blood flow. Additionally, reducing salt intake is vital, as excess salt causes the body to hold onto water, making cellulite appear more prominent. While drinking excessive caffeine can lead to dehydration, topical caffeine is often used to temporarily tighten the skin.

Laser Treatment for Cellulite

Studies have shown that different types of laser treatments may also help manage the appearance of cellulite.

  1. Don’t use endermologie unless you can continue it for life. I went through this treatment for about 6 months then they stopped providing that service. Now my cellulite has gone form mild to severe.

  2. Patty

I do yoga everyday and my legs don’t have cellulite anymore and look wonderful!

  3. Branwyne

@ Ruth – Maybe she was on the HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) diet.

  4. Lynne

If you have stomach issues like me, apple cider vinegar is a no can do. I would suggest, stop eating oils, red meat, fatty or processed foods and no smoking, and no alcohol. Do exercise everyday either treadmill or whatever you like. That’s the only thing that improved my Cellulite.

  5. Angie Rodriguez

Soy isn’t always GMO….look for non-gmo soy products.

  6. Debbie

I have also heard that apple cider vinegar may work for Cellulite and it also has many other benefits to keep you healthy. Be careful when using soy lecithin because this product is made with GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms).

  7. I’m going g to try these remedies and will let you know how it goes for me. One thing I’d like to add – some lady said here that she went on 500 calorie diet – since your body needs1200 calories a day, 500 calorie diet is dangerous. Eat healthy guys!

  8. Flossie Nuabi

Hi, I am trying to lose all this extra weight but nothing is working. Please help me.

  9. Lucia

I think the term you meant to use was “endermologie”, which is a treatment to help the apperance of cellulite, improve blood circulation, etc. and has been approved by the FDA.

  10. sharon

This was a great post and I will follow up to let you know how it worked. I hope everybody else does to.

  11. Debbie

I’m just like you, thin and still have cellulite. But I’ve gotten rid of most of mine by increasing circulation to the skin using reverse massage cups and dry brushing. What most people don’t seem to understand is that cellulite is mostly caused by the connective tissues, between the skin and muscle, becoming tight and less elasticy. This is why even thin women have cellulite. By increasing circulation to the skin the connective tissues can become more pliable reducing the dimples. I got my massage cups from Amazon for about 12$.

  12. For Cellulite, try Endomology!!!

  13. Valerie

I do not know you, but congratulations for losing so much weight. You go girl!

  14. Yan Harville

I lost over 100 lbs. And the amount of Cellulite is overwhelming on my legs. I will make an effort to try these remedies and I hope they work.

  15. For Cellulite, drink plenty of water, massage quiet firmly daily. I use my knuckles and use a dry body brush before or after your shower in the morning and at night. This is amazing for tricky cellulite, even the most fittest and healthiest people get cellulite unfortunately. Cellulite are fatty particles trapped in the deeper layer of skin but sits above muscle therefore sometimes exercise won’t entirely correct the appearance of cellulite as it won’t burn away in that layer so you work it from the outer layer by massage and dry body brushing.

Cellulite is Fascia and needs broken down to reduce the appearance. I bought Fascia blaster and it helps. Use it whenever you like. The more you breakdown the fascia the smoother the appearance can be. Hope this helps!

  17. Elizabeth

Natural remedies do work, I had horrible cellulite and decided to commit to a healthy diet, a complete detoxification, (colon cleanse, liver cleanse, candida cleanse), and went on a 500 calories diet and got HGH injections under the supervision of a doctor and I am impressed at the results.

  18. Glenda

Have you tried these methods? What have you tried?

  19. Wendy

Hey! I am a thin lady and never eat any fatty foods or have been fat in my life. I still have cellulite. It never goes away. I don’t believe all of these suggestions will make cellulite go away.

  20. And Brenda, the only practical solution for cellulite is exercise and good nutrition. When your body does not get required amount of nutrition, it focuses only on the most necessary body functions that your routine demands. I don’t remember not having cellulite ever in my life but now with lifestyle changes it has started to improve because now body has oxygen ( thanks to the everyday walk) and necessary nutritions.

  21. Hi brenda. I can relate to your problem because I have had this problem for at least 8 years. I tried everything while realistically focusing on the long term health concerns. But nothing worked so I went to one doctor, then another and then another. And eventually after five years of consulting good doctors, I googled my problems thoroughly and figured out that I needed a pelvic and abdominal ultrasound. Imagine my surprise when I was diagnosed with endometriosis and multiple fibroids and my condition was very bad because of the long delayed diagnosis. So I had to go through a surgery after which I put on more weight. It’s been a year since my surgery. The first 8 months I kept putting on weight regardless of healthy low fat diet and exercise but have finally started to loose weight and feel healthy as well. I hope your situation is not as bad as mine. But do get your thyroid, hormones and vitamin D3 and B12 tested. It will give you a pretty clear picture of the underlying cause. Also started using my fitness pal. It’s a great free app to monitor nutrition as well as the calories. And remember that with good health and consistent effort, even people with genetic tendency to be obese can, and do loose weight. Good luck. And if you need any help, leave a message here for me ๐Ÿ™‚

Cellulite is actually fat stuck in there. If you massage and make sure you get the lymph nodes it will help with the circulation, causing fat to break down.
You have lymph nodes behind the knees, the inguinal triangle, the armpits, by the breasts, and more, always massage going towards the heart.

  23. Lorraine

Could cellulite cause extra fluid retention? I have lost 25 lbs and still have cellulite.

  24. Brenda

I exercise 6 days a week and eat very healthy. I’m even on a low carb diet and still having problem keeping my weight down. Also I’m having a hard time getting rid of cellulite.

  25. Nikki

To Marin3: I just watched the video that you suggested. I am highly considering ordering the package, but I just wanted to confirm with you that it is 100% worth it. I am really tight on money, but my health and looks are important to me. Please respond when you have a chance. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for sharing this cellulite home remedy! This is very helpful. I really love such home remedies over chemically produced ones because they’re more friendly to the skin.

  28. With the right exercise plan, you can reduce your cellulite and make your lower body look smoother and firmer. The trick is working all your lower body muscles from every angle, reducing the underlying fat stores and replacing lost muscle tissue to give the area a taut, toned appearance throughout.

There are many exercises this is one of them to perform this exercise you will have to put yourself standing with legs apart and feet facing out. Place your hands on the chain and bend your knees create a 90 degree angle. You must stay in this position for at least 2 minutes. Make every day 3 sets of 20 repetitions. It is one of the exercises to eliminate cellulite working best.

I have lost all of my baby weight from having my 3rd daughter and of course being a 32 year old mother of 3, there can be areas that needa little extra help. I read a review that if you use the Lady Soma Berry Masque on cellulite – it would work. This is a glyolic mask.

This mask will not replace proper diet and working out. However, in conjunction with, it is excellent. Decided to try the Lady Soma Mask on my stretch marks – I apply it to the area I want to treat and I wrap myself in saran plastic wrap. I see beautiful smooth results. I’ve even noticed a HUGE decrease in the creases on the skin on my neck. Which has been a proble since I was young. Anyway, my BUT is, you have to still work out, eat right and drink lots of h20. Enjoy the results!

OMG…it’s a natural remedy not all will benefit from it cuz everyone’s body reacts differently with anything they take…so yeah for some it could benefit you a lot on cellulite for others not a much…cuz everyone’s body is different..works differently..so if this don’t help you try another natural remedy that has to do with cellulite or another ailment/condition you may have..simple as that…don’t be talking negative about a natural remedy if it didn’t work so well with you..doesn’t mean it won’t work for others…btw I’m a certified massage therapist..and this did help me with cellulite a great deal..again everyone is different and also it’s all about consistency,..dedication..and commitment…it’s not a magic pill it takes time to see the benefits fully in any natural remedy..:) take care xoxoxo

  34. Kimber

I have been taking ACV due to my ph acid levels were on high side . Been taking for 6 months .. And it is going. which is a good thing, but i HAVE NOT noticed any change with my cellulite. I’m going to start a cleaner eating plan and start some yoga to see if that helps.. Good luck ladies..I also think there isn’t any magic liquid in any bottle for cellulite. You could be losing water weight..

  35. @concerned – there’s no harm in taking or applying Apple Cider Vinegar during pregnancy. It actually helps with indigestion and acidity during pregnancy. I took it throughout my pregnancy. Good luck!

  36. Concerned

hi i think pregnant should not take it acv. it might harm the placenta.

  37. natural

I’ve noticed a lot of comments about apple cider not working for cellulite specifically and whether it does or doesn’t, I personally, do not know. However, I do know from experience that apple cider vinegar is very good for you and can help with so many other things due to the fact that vinegar is “alive” (starting bacteria). So it doesn’t hurt to try it and be surprised with how well you will start to feel after drinking it for bit!

  38. Im sorry but the low fat diet is such BS. I’m a nutritionist and low fat needs to have a bad reputation. By eating good and healthy fats you will help cellulite. Coconut oil, fish, avocado are all high calorie but GOOD. Ignore the calories on good fats.

  39. Tonya

I mixed a tablespoon with emergen-C and it went down ultra smooth and I take Emergen-C at least twice a day so let’s hope that this works. I’m down to take it for a month or two and report back!! fongers crossed!!!

  40. Heather J

What really helped me remove my cellulite in 2 months, was coffee grind body wraps done daily, special foods and a cleanse.
Check my story on cellulitenomore. net.

  41. lala are you for real….dont knock something you never try and of course you have to work out and eat healthy but this work i am living proof..if you don;t believe that go to another website

  42. You all are so ridiculous. It’s called WORKING OUT, LIFTING HEAVY and EATING CLEAN all natural unprocessed foods! There is no manic fix for losing weight or cellulite. Get real and get up off your ass and MOVE!

  43. Debby Cooley

ACV works! I started taking it as a natural remedy for acid reflux. I only used in tablespoon in a glass of water each morning and evening. Not only did the acid reflux go away, but those few extra pounds fell off too. In just a few month, I had lost 15 pounds without even trying. It was crazy!

  44. dear amon have your ever try it, i lose 20lbs and all my celliute by use acv.. it works. maybe you need to use it

  45. THIS IS ALL FAKE! GET REAL PEOPLE! YOU CAN’T GET RID OF CELLULITE WITH APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. YOU DO IT WITH EXERCISE AND EATING RIGHT. AND ARE YOU ALL BLIND??? THAT PICTURE IS SO PHOTOSHOPPED, IF YOU BELIEVE IT, I HAVE SOME RECENT ELVIS PICS FOR SALE…NO SERIOUSLY, HE’S MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR!!

  46. Robyn Palmer

Can you add the apple cider vinegar to anything else. I just know the taste is horrible when added to water, even with lemon and honey added. Someone please advise.

  47. Apple Cider Vinegar is not acid! When you consume it and the body metabolize it, it becomes alcaline! That’s why is recommended for people suffering gastristis! Trust me! It works!

  48. grace

It all sounds great. I’m thinking about buying in a capsule because of the acidity being bad for your teeth and throat. Does it affect you in any other way than just losing weight and cellulite? I’m not overweight but I’d like to lose 10-15 lbs. And I have some cellulite. Is this like a life-long thing? If you stop using it, will you go right back to where you started. I am starting to eat VERY clean and workout every day/every other day. So I have a healthy lifestyle. Do you think once I am pleased and stop taking it, I will go back to where I started (even if I live a healthy lifestyle)? Thanks. ๐Ÿ™‚

does the ACV increases the gastritis? I mean b/c of the high acid flavor?
