What is Black Seed Oil?

Black seed oil is an oil derived by pressing the seeds of the Nigella Sativa plant. The seeds are also commonly referred to as black cumin. The nutrient-rich oil of black seed has been used for hundreds of years in the Middle East and South Asia as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments.

What are the Benefits of Black Seed Oil?

Studies have shown that black seed oil is an effective anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory remedy. As a result, it is often used to fight infections and strengthen the immune system, which is suitable for treating the following conditions:

  • headaches
  • toothaches
  • nasal congestion
  • colds and flus
  • infections
  • digestive and gastrointestinal problems
  • hair and skin problems
  • allergies
  • inflammation
  • diabetes

Black seed oil has also been found to be effective at promoting menstruation, increasing milk production and facilitating erection in men. According to a few studies it may also help in the treatment of different types of cancers and HIV. However, more studies are required to determine its efficacy and dosage. For most ailments, the recommended daily dosage is 1/4 teaspoon of black seed oil per day. The oil can be mixed in warm or cold drinks, or it can be added on top of many foods right before consuming. It can also be used topically for backaches and arthritis and as a chest rub for respiratory problems.

Black Seed Oil acts as an antihistamine which helps to reduce the common symptoms of allergies (watery eyes, sneezing). Simply take a 1/4 teaspoon of oil when allergy symptoms begin to appear.

Flu and Fever

Black Seed Oil has been found to help reduce fever, by inducing perspiration which helps the body cool and stimulate the release of toxins. Take 1/4 teaspoon of Black Seed Oil once a day when flu/fever systems occur. Also be sure to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.

You can start with 5-6 drops of organic BSO mixed in her favourite juice to improve her immune system. I hope she gets better and live a long happy and healthy life! Good luck!

@ Naomi Enyonam Okyere, There is a popular black seed oil remedy for weight loss. It is mixing 1 tbsp of organic cold pressed BSO, 1/4 tsp of organic cinnamon powder, 1 tbsp of organic honey in one glass of alkaline water and drinking this mixtures on an empty stomach in the morning and before going to bed. It works great when you use it with at least 45 minutes of workout at least 3 days a week. Worked for me!

A callous comes from constant pressure on the skin in that same area over an extended amount of time. For example it could come from work or just a nervous movement of the fingertips. Glad to hear it was a great remedy.

  37. Simba

@Ankamah-Ababio, Black Seed Oil is known for its antioxidant and anti-convulsive properties which can help with epilepsy seizures. Taking one teaspoon of BSO is a popular remedy. However, for severe symptoms you shouldn’t rely on only Black Seed Oil. Keep administering the other meds and consult your doctor regularly. I hope it helps!

  38. Simba

    @Funmi and Jim,
You can buy Black Seed Oil for oral consumption from herbal or natural food stores or through online stores. Just make sure it is a cold pressed and organic product and is from a well known company. I hope it helps!

I had a callous that was on my finger for 32 years. My wife did not want me to touch her with that finger at all. I would put my finger to the grinder wheel in order to smooth it down. I started taking the Black Seed Oil and the callous went away. Before taking the Black seed oil, I had accepted living with the
callous for the rest of my life. This stuff is something else!

  44. @khadijah kida: Black Seed Oil is a natural immune booster and contains carotene, which is essential for infant growth. I give 1/4 tsp of organic cold pressed black seed oil mixed in some juice (which contains vitamin C) to my 2yr old daughter, about one hour before breakfast. I start giving it especially when I see everybody getting sick around us. Anyway, since your child is very small, I suggest you start with a few drops on an empty stomach to see how she/he handles it. If baby’s stomach gets upset, I suggest stop using it and stick to the meds prescribed by your doctor. Putting a small amount of Black Seed Oil around the nostrils so baby can inhale it also helps with the cold.

  45. khadijah kida

My baby is a little over 2 months old. Can I start giving it to him? He has a cold and everything I have tried doesn’t seem to work.

  46. Something that every sick person who is about to begin using Black Seed Oil should know this. As you are going to put it into your body it is imperative that you use only OGANIC VIRGIN & COLD PRESSED black seed oil. If it does not say so on the label you are not getting what your body actually needs. You must also remember that for the first month of use you will not feel any better. In fact, you might even feel worse. This is because the amino acids in the oil are doing their job in mending your biological features and there will be some distress associated with it. THIS IS NORMAL! You must remain consistent. It will also tend to take away your apetitie and/or cause you to not want to eat what you are usually accustomed to. This is Natures way of trying to steer you in the right direction for a new well balanced diet. You are sure to lose some weight during this time. Not a lot but a few pounds will definitely be melted off. Especially for those who are suffering from CANDIDA. It must also be taken on an empty stomach BEFORE you eat for best results. Then one day POW- no more pain! Do not stop taking it at that point. Keep using it and if you are smart, you will use it for the rest of your life. Be Well
